The Bible Says:
“But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. “ Luke 6:28 & 29
Here is the thought:
If you have lived any amount of time you have experienced hurt from the kind of people described in these scripture verses. Unfortunately as Christians when we experience this from other Christians, it seems even more hurtful. Yet, God’s Word does not tell us that “enemies” and those who “hate you” or “curse you” and “despitefully use you” will only be unsaved people. And though it seems to me unthinkable that a Christian is sometimes this way, it is sadly true. And we are called upon by God’s Word to respond in very specific ways to all who do these things.
So let’s see what the dictionary says these words mean:
Love - In a general sense to have benevolence or good will for.
(We should not wish bad on those who wrong us)
Good - Benevolent; merciful; gracious.
(We should forgive them and be kind when you may happen to see them)
Bless - To pronounce a wish of happiness to one; to express a wish or desire of happiness.
(We should not only not wish bad, but instead wish happiness)
Pray - To ask with earnestness or zeal, as for a favor, or for something desirable; to entreat; to supplicate.
(We should pray for them earnestly asking God to help them.)
Learning to love those that try to hurt you is the hardest thing for anyone to do. But as believers this is exactly what we are called to do. Not just Love but also do good, Bless and pray for them. We are not given options were are given instructions. In my own strength I cannot do this. But with God all things are possible. Lord, please help me live in Your Strength, every day, the way you would have me live!
